    The Soviet Union gave false information to Egypt that Isreal was massing troops on the Syrian border. The Egyptians took positions overlooking the Strait of Tiran. Isreal told them that if they close the strait it would be an act of war. On May 22 Egypt closed the strait causing war. Egypt was allied with neighboring countires of Jordan and Syria. Isreal quickly won the Sinai Penninsula and other territories within a few days. They signed a seize fire on June 11 ending this "war"

Following massive US and Soviet resupplying of the sides, Israel succeeded in pushing back the Syrians and threatening Damascus. In Sinai, the IDF crossed the Suez Canal and cut off the Egyptian Third Army.

It pulled back to an enclave north of their border.
