  • Navigation Acts

    Laws were passed by England to main control over colonial trade. The acts made colonist by English goods and limited trade with other countries.
  • Treaty of Paris of 1763

    The document that ended the war between Britain and France over the Ohio River Valley. This treaty ended French power in North America and expanded British territory and increased British debt.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    It was meant to keep the natives and colonists from fighting. it made the colonists angry because they could not go west past the Appalachian Mountains.
  • Sugar Act 1764

    The sugar act required colonists to pay a tax of 6 pence. Most colonists worked around and did not pay. The British eventually lowed tax to 3 pence because they were hoping more people would pay their taxes.
  • Writs of assistance

    This was when colonists were smuggling goods. This was a way they could not be taxed by the British. It was a free pass to were they could do search warrants. It was made legal for British soldiers to search any property looking for goods.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    The British were not making enough money to pay for the French and Indian war so they made the stamp act. The stamp act required all colonists to purchase stamps, and stamp marks, from England on every piece of legal paper and other printed papers.
  • Quartering Act of 1765

    This was when the british wante fot make sure the colonists are doing what they are told, so they sent over 10,000 british troops to the colonies.

    The Stamp Act of Congress of 1765 was petition of the king. It was a boycott. It was about the taxes.
  • Declaratory Act

    This act was when British claimed right to tax and make all decisions in the colonies.
  • Townshend act

    This act was a act on paper, glass, paint, and tea. The King finance minister, Charles Townshend had a plan to raise revenue in the colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre involved the Townshend act. The Boston Massacre is what happened on King Street. The incident on King Street was when the Sons of Liberty and the British soldiers fought. The first person shot was Crispus Attucks.
  • Coercive Acts

    This act was used to describe a series of laws to Britain's colonies in North America and passed by the British Parliament in 1774.

    This act was when they shut down the port of Boston. The parliament forebode meetings more than once a year without the governors permission. Parliament allowed customs officers and other officials who might be charged with major crimes to be tired in Britain or Canada instead of Massachusetts. Parliament passed a new Quartering Act.
  • Tea Act

    The Tea Act gave Britain's East India Company a monopoly on tea.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was caused by the Tea Act. It was where the colonists threw tea into the Boston harbor. The goals were to protest British Parliament's tax on tea. It happened at Boston Harbor, Boston, MA.
  • First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress was a meeting of delegates from twelve of the Thirteen Colonies.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    On April 19, 1775 700 British troops reached Lexington. &0 minutemen were waiting. No one knows who shot first, but it's known as the "shot heard 'round the world". 8 minutemen were dead. The British then won the first fight, but it was not over. The British soldiers then went to Concord, Massachusetts the same day. When the British reach Concord they destroy military supplies without much of a fight. They then have to march back. As the British marched back they were shot at.
  • Second Continental Congress

    The Second Continental Congress meets in Philadelphia on May 10, 1775. They agreed to make an official army, along with naming George Washington the general. They also authorized printing of money to pay soldiers.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Colonists Colonel William Prescott ordered minutemen, "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!" The British eventually win, but not without terrible losses. Their was 400 minutemen, 1,000 British soldiers. The inexperienced colonial militia had held its own against the world's most powerful army.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    The Olive Branch Petition historically symbolizes peace. Continental Congress sends the document to England and it asks to restore harmony between the colonists and England. The king rejects the petition.
  • Common Sense

    In early 1776, most colonists wanted to avoid war with England. However, after Common Sense is published, many change their mind. This pamphlet was created by Thomas Paine. Common Sense was a success. It sold 100,00 copies in three months. The idea for independence was now loud.
  • Declaration of Independence

    On July 2, 1776 congress considered Lee's Resolution for Independence. Despite some strong opposition, it did pass. From this point forward the colonists were acting as their own country. The United States of America. On July 4, 1776 congress officially votes and adopts the document know as the Declaration of Independence. John Hancock was the first to sign it. If the American's loose, the people who sign this document would be the first to be hanged for treason.
