  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    The Battle of Lexington and Concord was between the British Redcoats and the colonial Militiamen. The British were sieging on Concord in order to find the Colonies’ arms supply, and when they couldn’t find the weapons, they started heading towards Boston, which is when they encountered the Militiamen in Lexington, and the shot heard round the world started the battle between them. The acting leader of the British was General Thomas Gage, and his Colonial opposite was Joseph Warren.
  • Battle at Bunker Hill

    Battle at Bunker Hill
    The Battle of Bunker hill was a battle fought right outside Charleston, Massachusetts. William Prescott lead The colonial militiamen to defend against the British marching on Charleston. The battle was technically a loss for the colonies, but the militiamen had done great damage on the larger British force, and it acted as reassurance that the colonies really could win their revolution

    Battle of Trenton/Princeton

    The Battle of Trenton was when the colonies attacked a Hessian Fort and successfully took it over, but The British had been chasing George Washington, so Washington made the decision to cross the Delweare River in order to escape. Washington regrouped his men, and he crossed the Delaware again in order to get to Princeton, but the British wouldn’t let them get through, so at night the colonists basically snuck by the British to get to Princeton.
  • Siege of Fort Ticonderoga

    Siege of Fort Ticonderoga
    The Siege of Fort Ticonderoga was when the Green Mountain Boys, a militia of less than 100 men, attacked the fortified Fort Ticonderoga in Vermont. The Green Mountain Boys were succesful, and their victory was the first of the American Revolution. These militiamen were led by Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold

    Battle of Saratoga

    The Battle of Saratoga was technically two battles. The British were attacking from Canada, and they captured Fort Ticonderoga and were advancing south to take over the colonies. The British moved slowely, and it gave the colonists time to realign themselves and get ready for an attack by the British. Horatio Gates, with support from George Washington who sent Benedict Arnold, was able to lead the colonists to victory, completely destroying the British force on the second battle, in October.

    Siege of Charleston

    The Siege of Charleston was the worst defeat of the colonists in the war. The British were going all out in the mostly neutral state of South Carolina. The Colonists lost immensely, and General Benjamin Lincoln was forced to surrender to the British. This lost lots of people and supplies for the colonists.
  • Battle of King’s Mountain

    Battle of King’s Mountain
    The Battle of Kings mountain was a battle in South Carolina that put the Tories, Americans still loyal to the British, against a force of the Colonies’ militia. This wasn’t a huge part of the milita, and it was not a huge number of Tories. Nonetheless, Colonel Campbell of Virginia lead the militia to victory against the Tories and could have possibly saved the main colonial force form being surrounded from the Southwest.

    Battle of Yorktown

    The Battle of Yorktown was the final battle of the Revolution that was fought in the colonies. George Washington had his French allies block the British in at Chesapeake Bay, and Washington attacked the British head on. The fighting lasted for 3 weeks, and it all ended with Cornwallis, the British General, surrendering on October 19th, 1781
