  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    Colonel Smith, Major Pitcairn and Lord Percy commanded the British Troops. Paul Revere and William Dawes rode to warn the villages on the route to Concord and the Congress. Militia were commanded by Barrett, Buttrick, Robinson are the known ones, but there were many others. The battles were not really of strategic importance but the goal of the British was to seize military supplies and the militia were trying to stop them.
  • Fort Ticonderoga

    Fort Ticonderoga
    Green Mountain Boys led by Ethan Allen and Colonel Benedict Arnold surprised and overcame a small British garrison at the fort and looted the personal belongings of the garrison. It was a big morale booster for the militia and the cannons captured at the fort would be used for the siege of Boston.

    Bunker (Breed’s) Hill
    William Howe was the commander in chief of the British army at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Despite their loss, the inexperienced colonial forces inflicted significant casualties against the enemy, and the battle provided them with an important confidence boost.

    Major Patrick Ferguson Led the British, Colonel William Campbell led Patriots. The battle was the first major patriot victory to occur after the British invasion of Charleston, SC in May 1780.
