    This timeline will depict the many events and the event's significance in history from the time period 1950 to 1990.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    The Vietnam War was a long, fatal awar between the communist state of North Vietnam and Viet Cong, against South Vietnam and their main ally, the US .North Vietnam was communist. South Vietnam was not. North and South Vietnamese Communists and rebels, known as the Viet Cong, wanted to overthrow the South Vietnamese government and re-unite the country.
    More than 3 million were killed in the Vietnam War.

    Elvis Presley was highly significant and influential figure during the 20th century. He had many popular songs and was a social icon. Elvis Presley is given the credit as the creator of "rock n roll". He was most popularly known for being extremely skilled with his guitar.
  • Legendary Coach Bear Bryant for The University of Alabama

    Legendary Coach Bear Bryant for The University of Alabama
    Born on September 11, 1913, in Moro Bottom, Arkansas. Bear Bryant was known as the most winningest coach in college football at one point with 323 wins. He coached at the university of Alabama for 25 years. He also won 6 national championships. He later died a little after his last coached football game.
  • University of Alabama is Desegregated

    University of Alabama is Desegregated
    On June 11, 1963, standing in front of the University of Alabama auditorium, Governor Wallace had Alabama state troopers refuse the entrance of two African American students into the college. This led to an extreme controversy because it proposed white supremacy.
  • President John F Kennedy is Assassinated

    President John F Kennedy is Assassinated
    While riding in a motor vehicle in Dealey Plaza, located in Dallas, Texas, the 35th president was fatally shot. In the car, was his wife Jacqueline, Texas Governor John Connally, and Connally's wife, Nellie. After thorough investigation it was found that the president was murdered by Lee Harvey Oswald.     Malcolm X is Assassinated
    In New York City, NY, religious leader and advocate, was murdered by rival black Muslims. His death sparked an uproar in the black communities. Thomas Hagan, a former member of the Nation of Islam, was found to be one of the assassins who killed Malcolm X.

    "Bloody Sunday" Sparks the Civil Rights Movement
    On March 7, 1965 around 600 people walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge to begin the Selma to Montgomery march. State troopers brutally assaulted the peaceful civil rights walkers in Selma. This sparked the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement.

    Apollo 11, First Space Mission to Land on the Moon
    On July 16th, 1969 the US launched a spaceflight to the moon , containing the first humans to go into space. It took four days to land and on July 20th the first humans step foot on the moon. The mission included Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin.

    In a television broadcast, the 37th president announced his resignation to thousands of families across the United States. He was the first president in US history to resign.     Hurricane Carmen was the most intense tropical cyclone of the 1974 Atlantic hurricane season. The storm moved through the Caribbean Sea, and in an environment conducive to intensification, it quickly strengthened to its initial peak intensity as a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir–Simpson Hurricane Scale.

    In early December, one member of the most popular group at the time, The Beatles, was shot and murdered. Lennon was known for his musical abilities and peaceful beliefs. He left behind his wife,Yoko Ono. Mark Chapman was later convicted for the murder of the late musician.

    Nelson Mandela was the leader of the movement to end South African apartheid. He was released from prison after 27 years on February 11, 1990.
