    People in the camps are treated like animals. Elie witnessed many gruesome events and deaths of others. A boy was hung while he was exposed to the other prisoners and after his death, everyone was forced to walk by his corpse and look at his "extinguished eyes, tounge hanging from his gaping mouth." (63). When Moishe was telling his story of things he witnessed, he mentioned "Infants were tossed into the air and used as targets for the machine guns." (6).

    When people arrived to the concentration camps, they were divided and determined if they would be able to survive and be workers or automatically killed. Elie was told about the "chimney over there" (30) and how "that's where they will take you."(31). That is were possibly him and thousands of others would be burned into ashes.
  • "Long Live Liberty"

    When the prisoners were forced to watch a young boy be hung, he was not instantly killed. The boy was shouting "Long live Liberty! My curse on Germany!" (62) and once his words faded and he was killed, Wiesel and the rest were forced to walk past his dead, hanging body. Elie Wielsel said the boy had "the face of an angel in destress." (63)
  • Sighet Jews go to Auschwitz

    In May, the Nazis spend about a week transforing the Jews from Sighet that were in the ghettos to Auschwitz, the largest concentration camp. The Jews were transported in four different transports.

    After Wiesel was operated on, he had to go on the death march. Everyone had to run and it was a challenge for Wiesel exspecially because of his recent operation. As the Jews arrived to a ghost town, Shlomo was getting weaker and more fragile. Elie was encouraging his dad saying "Wake up. One musn't fall asleep here..." (90) in hopes he wouldn't fade away. Shlomo's body couldn't take the effects of bieng starved and passed away. Elie claims to feel freed because he doesn't have that curiosity of

    The Soviet Union entered Auschwitz and liberated the remaining 7,000 prisoners. The Soviet Union continued to liberate various Nazi camps. Wiesel spent a few years in a French orphanage with his sisters. Since the end of the war, Wiesel accomplished so much. He began studying literature, philosophy, and psychology in 1498, went to Jerusalem in 1449, became a professor in 1979, and was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. Wiesel was attacked by someone who didn't believe in the Holocaust.
