Approximate date of the construction of the Hoxie House, the oldest surviving house on Cape Cod. -
Sandwich Glass Factory founded
In 1825 the industrial revolution arrived in Sandwich with the founding of the Sandwich Glass Factory by Deming Jarves. Sandwich was chosen for its plentiful firewood and access to a good harbor. It was also the proposed location of the Cape Cod Canal.

Massachusetts Military Reservation established
MMR was established in the 1930's as Camp Edwards National Guard Base. Otis Airforce Base was later added. The base occupies a large section of Sandwich's land. -

Federal Highway Act resulted in the extension of Route 6 along Cape Cod. -

US Route 6 is extended along Cape Cod offering fast connection to Boston, the South Coast of Massachusetts and New York. -

White Flight
Growth spreads down the South Shore from Boston onto Cape Cod. Thousands of people commute from Cape Cod to the Boston area daily by 2010. -
CERCLA Act 1980

Massachusetts Military Reservation declared a superfund site
MMR consists of Camp Edwards National Guard Base and Otis Airforce Base. In 1989 the site was listed as a superfund site due to the pollution of the water table with chemicals and fuel from military training. -
