Slave owners became angry when Mexico outlawed slavery. They wanted to maintain their slaves so they could keep growing cotton. -

Texans wanted to annex with the United States. But the congress didn't allow the annexation because some Northeners believed the Texans would rebel against the slavery or start war with Mexico -

Houston suprised Santa Anna by advancing many angry texans screaming "Remember the Alamo" and "Remember Goliad." In just eighteen minutes the texans killed half of the mexican army forcing Santa Anna to sign a treaty giving texas its freedom. -
Lone Star Republic
Texas got an official flag and go the nickname the Lone Star Republic. Sam Houston was elected the lands president.
