    Europe and Asia

    Up intil 1453 Asia and Europe traded in the middle east. The people call it Iraq now. The peoplle of Iraq told them they could not use their land anymore. That is why they sent Columbus to find a route to Asia over the water.

    Cristopher Columbus

    Cristopher Columbus was sent by the king of Europe to find a trade route over the water. He made a mistake and sailed east instead of west. Columbus went to the king of Portugal and asked him to pay for his trip. But the king did not care about it. Columbus went to the king of Spain and he agreed to pay for his trip. He traveled to America and thought the Native Americans were Indians for a long time. It took him many years for him to realize they were not in Asia. He had 3 voyages to America.

    Amerigo Vespucci
    America is named after Amerigo Vespucci and he was Italian. He was sailing to find Portugal. He sailed to the coast of Brazil and explored there.

    Hernando Cortez

    Cortez went to America and found the Aztecs. They were exeptional fighters but Cortez beat them. He had two things they did not. Guns and Horses. He made a lot of slaves of them and if they were over 25 years of age, he cut their right foot off.

    Alanso Pineda

    He went to Mexico and attacked the Aztecs. Pineda Was looking for a way to China from Jamaica. He found Mexico. He attacked the Aztecs but got killed. Some people say the Aztecs skinned him and put him in their temple.

    Cabeza de Vaca

    Cabeza de Vaca sailed to modern day Florida. After his crew vanished, he was one of the four that made it to shore. For two years he lived among the Karankawas and they told him rumors of Cibola, a city made of gold. After he found his way back to Mexico, he spread the rumor of Cibola.

    Estaban
    Estaban was an African slave that got shipwrecked with Cabeza de Vaca, Alanso Maldonado, and Andres Carranza. He was sent by Spain to explore after he got back to them. They said "You go ahead and see what is there." And he was killed by Indians.

    Fransisco Coranado
    He heard Cabeza de Vaca's rumors and went to find Cibola. He hoped to be very wealthy. He was treating Indians very poorly.

    He led an expidition but did not find the city. He blamed the Indians who had spread the story and killed them.
  • Juan de Onate

    Onate's soldiers fought with the Acoma Indians in New Mexico. 13 soldiers and his nephew were killed. He traveled to Texas and named El Paso. He killed 800 Acoma's and made 500 his slaves. He went back to Mexico and was forbidden ever to go to The New World again for the way he treated the Indians.
  • La Salle

    La Salle made multiple voyages to The New World. He made a colonie name St. Fort Louis. After he realized another tribe lived there, he left them to the mercy of the Karankawas. When is men who went with him realized he had let the tribe get killed, they killed him. They did not send another expidition (Spain or Europe) to The New World for 75 years.
