    Before Cambodia, the land was the Indianised states of Funan and Chenla coalesced in what is now present-day Cambodia and southwestern Vietnam. This was the rise of Cambodia.

    In Funan and many of the surrounding empires, the majority of the people practiced Hunduism. When there came a new leader, there also came a new religion. Bringing a new religion went well and is still practiced today.

    Jayavarman VIII
    Jayavarman VIII was enthroned, and he changed Cambodia's main religion to Hinduism. Before, Cambodia was predominantly Buddhism. Once Jayavarman VIII left, Buddhism returned by gaining the popular vote.

    The Thai invaded Angkor. Angkor used to to the capital city of Cambodia. Cambodia has had many ongoing problems with it's surrounding countires. Most of these disagrements were of territory.

    The Thai captured the Cambodian capital, Lovek, and installed a military governor there. At the time, Lovek was the capital city, but it was later changed to Phnom Penh. This is one of many troubles Cambodia has had with land and ruling.

    A civil war breaks out in Cambodia. Cambodia, formerly known as Kampuchea, developed many problems with it's own government along with the surrounding countires. The war lasted eight years.

    A peace agreement was signed in Paris. Cambodia has gone through many controversies during it's time. This peace agreement settled many of it's problems at the time.

    Jayavarman II declared independence from Srivijaya under the Sailendra, proclaiming himself the divine king of Kambuja. Jayavarman II settled much of the fighting going on at the time, and was recognized as the founder of the Khmer Empire.
