    Crafts and Trade
    The Age of Trade and Contacts came about the ancient-day Philippines; Chinese travelers traded porcelain and silk in exchange for deer horn, trepang, and beeswax for medicinal and food purposes. The porcelain still exists from the Tang, the Sung, and the Ming Dynasty. When China was trading, their culture became a part of present-day Philippines culture; their culinary techniques, the variety of rice cakes and noodles, cooking implements.

    After the Chinese trade, the Filipino family structure was reinforced with more authorization Chinese style, especially the way of addressing parents and siblings. Most Filipinos have a part Chinese ethnicity; some are pure Chinese, due to the prejudice against those, who are not full Chinese and same status. The Chinese were commonly known to be of high status.

    The Spanish explorer, Ferdinand Magellan discovers present-day Philippines and claims it for King Charles I. The islands were named after King Philip II and the pine trees on the islands (today, those trees do not exist in this country). Spain had objectives for the Filipinos; to become part of the spice trade, to convert the natives into Christians, and spread awareness of Christianity, without bloodshed from the experiences in the Americas

    The Spanish did not find the spices or the precious metals. China still traded goods with the Filipinos; but there was never direct trade with the Spain. The Chinese population grew and outnumbered the Spanish population. The Spanish tried to control the population with law and threatened violence, leading to riots and massacres. Later, Spain went to war against Britain; after, the Spanish rule was revived and the Filipinos were forced to trade with Spain.

    When the United Nations was established, the Commonwealth of the Philippines was given title of a charter member. Later, the nation was granted full independence and renamed the Republic of the Philippines. The Filipino government was a democracy because of the influences of the United States of America. On a side note, the Philippines presently have a female president, due to the impeachment of Joseph Estrada, a former movie star.

    According to the Migration Policy Institute, in the the Filipino culture, it was common for the adults to live in another country to work their desired occupation or to gain a better education. They would work and study to improve their skills and then return to the Philippines, prepared to create their lifestyle. Some Filipinos decide to permanently live in the country they immigrated to and become citizens, if allowed, because they like the lifestyle they created, there.
