    This i day is known as black Tuesday, it was the sudden collapse of the stock market due to everyone losing jobs and becoming bankrupt. It sets off the great depression, and begins a dark period of the citizens of the united states of America.

    This was a period of severe dust storms and droughts that affected certain parts of the US. It was mainly in the southern region where they were affected greatly. They handled most of the US agriculture. It was caused by poor farming practices, long droughts and strong winds. It caused an agricultural devastation for some farmers.

    Hooverville

    These were shantytowns that were formed during the great depression named after President Hoover. These shanty towns consisted of small make shift shelters out of scraps of wood, metal, cardboard, tin etc. They were usually inhabited by the homeless or unemployed.
  • Smoot Hawley Tariff Act

    Was a US legislation aimed at protecting American industries by raising tariffs on imported goods. It was mean to bolster domestic production and employment. It backfired greatly though, even reducing trade.

    People during the great depression, didn't trust banks anymore. Due to their poor banking practices and scams. People were scared of losing all their money so they withdrew all their money from the bank. People lost trust in the bank and even feared it. This caused further economic crisis in the US.

    The new deal was a series of policies implemented by FDR. Its purpose was to combat the Great Depression and help the US recover. It formed lost of new programs and orginazations to help the US and people recover.
  • Adolf Hitler Comes to Power

    Adolf Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany. He starts a dictatorship with his fascist group called the Nazis. He Dictates germany and his people follow in fear of what will happen if they defy him. This leads us down the start of WW2.
  • FDR Inauguration

    FDR comes into presidency, this is the start of a better future for the US. He stands a stepping stone in history, that helped America recover from the Great Depression and WW2.
  • Bank Holiday

    This was a idea, initiated by FDR, to help recover peoples trust in banks. Banks would be closed on certain days , and would be checked by federal or state gov for any corruption.
  • Fireside Chats

    FDR talks to the people and reduces anxiety of them. He talks to them about new deals and programs. Whats going on in the US. He explains alot to them and people tune in to these chats. Builds the trust of the people again.
  • End of prohibition

    Repealed by the 21st amendment, allowing people to drink again. Brought a day of joy for older americans as they hadnt been able to drink and with the stress of the depression, helped a little.
  • New deal cut

    FDR was in charge of handling the debt and wanted to cut back spending on the New Deal to help other parts of the economy but it back fires. It sends the US back into a depression, undoing all the work they had done. They end up having to bring the new deal with a 5 billion dollar relief program.

    The nation is starting to recover from the depression. People are starting to go back into work and the economy starts to heal. People start trusting in the banks and begin putting money back in.
  • Japan Invades China

    Japan invades china and breaks the allies agreement. This starts a new beginning and a era of war.
  • Annexation of Austria

    This was also a start to hitlers plan on dominating the world through fear and power. Shows other countries that he should be considered a threat and not a ally.
  • Germany Invades poland

    This triggers WW2 in europe so great britain and france declare war on germany. Due to germany aggression. German Forces overwhelmed poland.

  • Germany Tries to Invade Soviet Union

    Germany tries to take over the capital of the Soviet Union. German forces try and go through the frozen area of the Soviet Union and lose lots of troops. Germans end up getting to Moscow but The Soviet Unions uses a counterattack and the germans retreat. The Soviet Union declares war on Germany

    War Rationing

    People are advised to start rationing for the war. Such as food, metal, clothes, gas etc. This is too support the war effort and help reduce spending during the war so that the soldiers can be taken care of.

    Japanese Internment Camps

    After pearl harbor, the Japanese were seen as enemies of the country. Even Japanese Americans' were being speculated as spies, so as the people and gov lost trust in them. The gov made internment camps to keep watch of the Japanese, and protect the US.

    This a day when the US, British and Canadian troops launch a massive assault on Normandy France. Despite lots of resistance the allies win and this ends up paving the way to victory and defeat for nazis.

    Battle of Okinawa

    The US decided to use the plan called Island Hopping, going from island to island getting closer and closer to japan. When they got to Okinawa, is where they received the most resistance as die hard Japanese were willing to put their lives on the line order to not lose. There was many casualties on both sides but japan had more. The Japanese lost and US became victorious.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima

    The bombing of hiroshima was the first time a nuclear bomb was used. We have never seen such destruction but it was nessacary for the US to do this since japan didnt want to surrender. They bombed hiroshima and lessened japan forces
  • Bombing of Nagasaki

    After Hiroshima, the japanese still didnt want to surrender. The US was forced to bomb another major city in order to get their point across. In face of sheer destruction, the japanese surrender after the 2nd bomb. The japanese had many casualities
