His son Ernest helped him constantly along the way. He then formed a partnership with Olivier Brothers. This was the first company to make bikes with pedals. The Machine Gun
In 1861, Dr. Richard Gatling invented the Gatling Gun, a multi barrel weapon that could fire 200 rounds per minute. He was the son of Jordan Gatling, who was also an inventor. Richard created this weapon during the Civil War, thinking that it would end the war quickly, since there would be less soldiers on the battlefield. In 1862, Gatling made another version of it, having reloadable steel chambers and used percussion caps. He remade the invention 5 years later, to use metallic cartridges. -

In November, 1862, Dr. Richard Gatling Patented the first machine gun. This invention affected the Civil War very much. Many soldiers died from illness instead of gun wounds in the war. Dr. Gatling worked to change this with his patent of the machine gun. He believed that if he could build a machine that could enable one man to do as much damage as a a hundred, he would reduce many deaths from disease and thus stop most warfare. -

The typewriter was invented by Christopher Sholes. After 5 years of tests Sholes along with his crew made a better version of the typewriter. They keys in the typewriter jammed a lot so Sholes's partner James Densmore gave the idea to split up keys and group to gether the more commonly used keys in the English Language and made the QWERTY keyboard. Traffic Light
In 1868 a man by the name of JP Knight invted the first Traffic Light. The first light was installed in front of the London Parliment. The Traffic Light used gas lamps and had only two colors, red and green. Police men would have to manually stop the lights in order for the pedestrians to cross the street. When a gas lamp exploded and injured a police officer they didnt use gas lamps anymore.
