    Muhammad

    Muhammad
    Muhammad is the founder of the religion known as Islam. He is known as a messenger and prophet of god, and the last prophet of the Qur’an. He is said to have had revelations from god, and preached these his whole life. He is the most known of the prophets, and the most regarded in the Islam religion.

    Crusades

    The crusades were multiple attempts to take over the Holy Land, known as Jerusalem. There were many crusades, including children, which most failed. They were started by the pope, and different kings, all preaching that if they restore the Christian religion in the holy land, they will make it to heaven. These we multiple battles between the Muslim religion, who thought they deserved it, and the Christian religion, who they thought deserved it.

    The day Israel became a country, they were under attack. Before Israel, it was called Palestine. Because of the affects of the second world war, the Jews just wanted a country to call home. This is where they decided to change it from Palestine to Israel, so they can have their "home country".

    The six-day war was a war that consisted of Egypt, Jordan and Syria, all against Israel. This was because Israel had joined and helped against Egypt in the Suez Crisis. Israel attacked Egypt, and then Jordan attacked Israel. After all the fighting there was a peace treaty put in place, and Israel gained control over the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, and the Golan Heights.

    1973 Oil Crisis

    The oil crisis was a result of the US supplying Israel in the Yom Kippur War. OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries), consisting of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran Syria, decided to limit or stop oil shipments to the US. Since the Middle East was a big factor in the oil supply in America, this made the economy stagnant, and limited peoples days and chances to get gas.

    The Yom Kippur war was another war between Israel v.s. Egypt, Syria and other supporting countries. The war started as a surprise attack on the biggest day in Judaism, where they attacked the Sinai Peninsula and the Golan Heights, which Israel captured during the 6 day war. The war ended with another Israel victory and a cease-fire treaty.

    Lebanon Civil War

    The civil war in Lebanon happened due to Christians and Muslims fighting for the government to be on their side (christian=west, muslim=United Arab republic) The U.S. would not help the government, who was for the western powers, because they were mainly against communism at the time. This caused the overthrowing of the government by the Phalange malitia.

    The Iranain Revolution was a result of the people becoming upset with the Shah, who they believed was being taken advantage of by the US and using him. They also just plain out didn’t like the Shaw, because he was not the nicest guy, and he was making the economy worse.

    Iranian Hostage Crisis

    The Iranian hostage crisis was a hostage situation where 53 Americans were held hostage by a bunch of Islamic extremists for 444 days. They stormed the embassy in support of the Iran Revolution, and resulted with 8 American deaths and the hostages were released coinciding with the new American president Ronald Reagan being sworn into office.

    USSR Invades/starts war with Afghanistan

    The USSR invasion of Afghanistan was a result of the USSR supporting the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, and the fight against the Islamic extremists Mujahideen. The Mujahideen were supported mostly by the US, due to the fact they could get back at the Soviet Union, and other Islamic countries. After all the fighting, the USSR retreated, the Mujahideen had all kinds of extra weapons via US and war itself, and the Afghanistan civil war continued.

    The Iran-Iraq war was an effect of the long boarder disputes between the two countries and the fear of the Shia rebellions. Iraq also wanted to become the most dominant Persian Gulf country, so if they took out Iran, they would be. The attacks were started by Iraq, until Iran blocked and pushed back the Iraq army, and never stopped until the end of the war.

    The Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm)

    The Gulf War was started because of Iraq invading Kuwait. On January 17, 1991 the coalition of forces launched an aerial attack on the Iraqi forces in Kuwait, followed by a ground assault that led to an Iraqi withdrawal and the fighting ceased in Iraqi territory, but then Iraq sent missiles into Saudi Arabia, where the coalition was stationed. The results were destruction of both Kuwait and Iraq, and Iraq withdrew all forces from Kuwait.

    Taliban Governs Afghanistan

    The Taliban is a Islamic extremist group that was in control of the government in Afghanistan from 1996-2001. They were anti-nationalist and had rules for women, children and men, and there was no joking around in their government and punishment. They were in control until 2001, when the US came in and overthrew the government, establishing a new one. The Taliban also supported Terrorism/al-Qaeda, which was a main reason the US invaded after 9-11.

    9/11 Terrorist Attack
    The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks were multiple suicidal plane hijackings that struck the Twin Towers in New York City and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. There was a fourth plane that crashed in a field in Pennsylvania that is thought to be headed to the White House. There were 19 hijackers, mostly from Saudi Arabia, that took over the planes. They were all members of al-Qaeda.

    The US invasion of Iraq was a result of the rumors that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. While they were there, they helped overthrow the government, led by Saddam Hussein, which supported Terrorism and WMD. They were also there to help the Iraqi people and give them freedom, and to establish a new government.
