  • James I takes the throne

    Formally known as James VI of scottland. Took control over England and Ireland. Not a very good king.
  • Charles I signs the Petition of Right

    Established rights.
  • Charles I is tried for treason and hanged

    Trial was held in Londan on January 1st. He was accused of being a tyrant, and hung on the 30th of January.
  • English Civil War occurs

    The English Civil War occured during 1641 and 1651. Occured between parliment and royals,
  • Charles I faces rebellion in Scotland

    Rebellion began when Charles I tried to force a new prayer book on Scotland.
  • Oliver Cromwell invades Ireland

    He disliked the Irish because they were loyal to the Roman Catholic church. He was a protestant who wanted revenge for the killing of other English Protestants.
  • Oliver Cromwell abolishes Parliament

    Made a new government. The Assembly of Saints took place of parliment.
  • Charles II is restored to the throne (Restoration)

    Exile after exicution of his fatherin 1649.
  • James II comes to the throne

    He was the 2nd surviving sonof Charles I and Henrietta Maria.
  • Habeas Corpus is passed

    It was the common law that strengthened ancient prerogative.
  • Glorious Revolution occurs

    Resulted to the English Bill of Rights.
  • English Bill of Rights is signed

    Declared King James II's daughter, Mary and the dutch prince William of Orange officially the King and Queen of England.
