  • 1509

    Henry VIII is made king of England

    April 22 1509 Henry VIII was made king of England. His reign ended January 28 1547, 38 years later.
  • 1580

    Population Increase

    In the years 1580-1650 the population doubled. It went from 3.5 million up to 5 million. This huge population increase created strain on the economy.
  • The Failure of Roanoke

    The Failure of Roanoke took place in 1590 when a group of 120 English settlers vanished. It is known as the Lost Colony of Ronaoke.
  • Jamestown was founded

    In 1607 Jamestown was founded. This is important because Jamestown there were many Jamestown colonists.
  • Smallpox

    In the year 1617 the smallpox epidemic started. It killed estimated 400,00 Europeans each year in the 18th century. Majority of people became infected during their life and 30% of the affected died.
  • Tobacco in James Town

    The Virginia Company had been pouring money into the settlement and getting nothing in return went into debt. In order for Jamestown to survive they needed something to get through. They got Tobacco seeds which ended up saving James Town because at the time Tobacco was in extreme high demand.
  • Plymouth Colony Founded

    In the year 1620 the Plymoth Colony was founded by pilgrims.
  • Mayflower Compact Writter

    The Mayflower Compact was written in 1620. This is important because the Mayflower Compact is a social contract that the pilgrims signed before leaving.
  • Great Fundamentals

    The Great Fundamentals is a set of laws written by Plymouth Colony pilgrims. These laws were titled and published as 1636 Book of Laws. This was renamed The General Fundamentals of New Plymouth.
  • The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut

    The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut is what the Puritans who left Plymouth wrote up for the first constitution in the colonies. It created a plan for the government.
    This plan made it so:
    - Give people the right to elect judges
    - Give people the right to elect representatives
    - Give people the right to make laws

    The 7 Year War

    The 7 year war was caused because of economics. Britain won the 7 year war but the main prize of the war was land. The land rights were dispersed between the British, Spanish, and French. While the real losers of the war were the Native Americans. This land dispersal really affected them because they were "stuck with the British, who kinda sucked."
  • King George III is made king

    In 1760 King George was made the king of Ireland and Great Britain. While he was King many conflict happened: Seven Year's War, Napoleonic Wars, and American Revolution.
  • Pontiac's Rebellion

    In the year 1763 Indians (mainly from the Ottawa and Delaware tribes) contributed in Pontiac's Rebellion. This was an armed revolt against the British.
  • The Proclamation Line of 1763

    The Proclamation Line of 1763 forbid settlement west of the Appalachian mountains. By doing this they reserved that territory for Indians.
  • Republicanism is Introduced

    During the end of the 7 Year War republicanism was introduced. Originally this just meant following a government without a King but to the colonies this definition expanded.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a boycott gone violent on March 5th 1770. While The Boston Massacre was not a massacre 5 colonists were killed and 7 soldiers were acquitted, with 2 charged.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party took place in 1773. It was caused because of the taxes that Great Britan had been placing on their citizen.
  • The British House of Commons

    In 1774 The British House of Commons was about how the tea parties thought the British would back down because of the protests but the British responded by passing "The Intolerable acts"
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts were passed in 1774, they include:
    - The Massachusetts Government Act
    - The Quartering Act
    - The Quebec Act
  • The First Continental Congress

    In 1774 in Philadelphia all of the colonies representatives (excluding Georgia) met in Philadelphia with the intent to coordinate resistance to the Intolerable Acts.
  • The Shot Heard Around the World

    In 1775 fighting broke out between Massachusetts malice men and the British soldiers. This first fight took place in Lexington and Concord, this even was also known as the shot heard around the world in the famous poem John Revere.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill

    The Battle of Bunker Hill took place June 17th 1775. Contrary to the name the battle was technically fought on Breeds hill. The British won this battle against the Americans, but the British had such bad causalities they had to leave Boston soon after the fight.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    In 1775 The Continental Congress sent the Olive Branch petition to King George. The Olive Branch petition was meant to show King George that the American citizens were loyal to Britain and wanted to "Reconciliation with the mother country."
  • Common Sense

    In January of 1776 Thomas Paine published Common Sense. This was a pamphlet that included strong and rhetorical arguments such as "Of more worth is one honest man to society and in the sight of god than all the crowned ruffians that ever lived." and "there is something absured supposing a content perpetually governed by an island."

    Shay's Rebellion

    Shays Rebellion was a rebellion in Massachusetts that started in 1786 and ended 1787. Shays Rebellion started because of poverty by American Revolution war veterans and indebtedness. People were scared the rebellion would spread so Americans supported the Philadelphia Convention which was there to reevaluate the Articles of Confederation.
