    Magna Carta

    The Magna Carta stated that everyone is subject to the law, even the king. It guarantees the rights of individuals, the right to justice, and the right to a fair trial.
  • Mayflower Compact

    The Mayflower Compact was the first document to claim self-government for people in America.
  • Fundamental Orders of Connecticut

    These papers set up the government for Connecticut River towns. Like the Constitution, it set up the government and listed its powers.
  • English Bill of Rights

    It stated that people have a right to trial by jury and they had the right to bear arms. There would be no cruel or unusual punishment.
  • French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War gave Britain territory in America and would be the factor that lead Americans to rebel against Britain. This made Americans want to be free. The proclamation of freedom is an important factor in the Constitution.
  • Albany Plan of Union

    The Albany Plan was a plan to create a unified government. These ideas would present themselves in the Constitution.
  • First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress met in order to set up resistance to the government and their powers. These flaws of the government would be corrected by the Constitution.
  • Second Continental Congree

    They met to discuss the issues with the government at the time that would later be addressed and fixed in the Constitution.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence was written to formally declare the United States as a free and independent country from Britain. The idea of freedom would be present in the Constitution.
  • Articles of Confederation

    This was the first constitution of the United States. The current Constitution is the modified version of the Articles of Confederation.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Shay's Rebellion was an event where many American's stood up and fought for their freedom. This event proved that the American's were willing to fight for their freedom and that freedom was a right in America as stated now by the Constitution.
  • Three-Fifths Compromise

    The Three-Fifths Compromise stated that slaves counted for 3/5th of a vote that I white person counted for. This Compromise would be changed in the current Constitution
  • Virginia Plan

    The Virginia Plan proposed a strong central government. This government would contain the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch.
  • New Jersey Plan

    The New Jersy Plan was a proposal for the structure of the government. It stated that the votes that a state gets should be proportional. Everything had to be equal in each state.
