  • Siege of Leningrad lifted

    The Russians lifted the siege they began on September 8, 1941. It resulted in a Soviet victory, however, more than 2 million Russians were killed in the process.
  • Operation Overlord

    D-Day begins, with the Allied forces landing in Normandy France. The Allied forces planned to go into Europe and revoke Germany's control. This invasion was schemed since 1943, and was the biggest seaborne invasion in all of history,
  • G.I. Bill signed

    President Franklin Roosevelt signed the G.I. Bill, or the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944. It was put in place to give a list of benefits to the WW2 veterans who were just getting back from the war.
  • President Franklin re-elected

    Franklin Roosevelt was re-elected on November 7, 1944. He won against the republican nominee, Thomas E. Dewey.
  • Death of President Roosevelt

    President FDR, died in office of a cerebral hemorrhage. He was succeeded by Harry Truman.
  • V-E Day

    Victory in Europe day marks the date of the Nazi surrender to the allied forces.
  • USS Indianapolis Sunk

    On July 30, 1945 the USS Indianapolis was bombed by Japanese submarines. The ship sunk within a few minutes, and only around 300 men survived.
  • Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    The United States dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
