  • 18th amendment was introduced

    The 18th amendment states that no one can manufacture, sell, or transport alcohol. Congress passed the 18th amendment in hopes that social and personal problems in America.
  • Rise of bootleggers

    Bootleggers are people who sell things illegally. Bootleggers, like Al Capone, became very popular during prohibition because people wanted alcohol but couldn't get it anywhere, so they went to people who sold it illegally.
  • Women's rights

    All American women are now allowed to vote.
  • 31 president

    In 1928 Herbert Hoover became the 31st president of America.
  • Elliot Ness

    Elliot Ness is an American Prohibition agent. His job was enforcing prohibition and he is famous for helping bring down Al Capone.
  • Stock market crash

    Because of the stock market crash the Great Depression started and people started to lose their job and their money.
  • Acceptance Speech

    Herbert Hoover made an acceptance speech for the Republican presidential nomination on the bad things of prohibition and why it should end.
  • 32nd president

    Franklin D. Roosevelt is elected a president and became the 32nd president.
  • Cullen-Harrison Act

    President Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act which made manufacturing and selling certain alcohol legal.
  • 21st amendment

    The 21st amendment was passed which repealed the 18th amendment. So it made it legal to make and sell alcohol in America.
