  • First Airplane

    For some businesses this was a push to improve. They had more to sell and now that people were aware of the new things being built they wanted to buy more. Businesses started to grow and increase.

  • JP Morgan founded US Steel

    Railroads moved supplies and people more cheaply.
    They created a network of track around the nation to interconnect the country.

  • Coal mine explodes in Monongah, West Virginia

    Killing at least 361, it worst industrial accident in American history

  • First car goes on market

    Businesses started booming, selling cars left and right. America had hope. Most people could afford a car and with this new car they could travel anywhere and they had room for luggage and their children.

  • Congress created the United States Bureau of Mines

    With the goal of investigating and inspecting mines to reduce explosions and to limit the waste of human and natural resources. In addition the Bureau of Mines set up field officers that would train mine crews, provide rescue services, and investigate disasters when they do occur

  • Henry Ford develops the assembly line

    This was a big invention for all businesses. Their system of production became faster and easier. Jobs became available to fill these spots needed in the assembly line.

  • World War I

    First 15 months involved a lot of mistakes, misguided enthusiasm, and confusion. Americans were willing enough, but they didn't know their proper role. Washington was unable to figure out what to do when, or even to decide who was in charge.The confusion was the coal shortage that hit in December 1917. The solution included nationalizing the coal mines and the railroads for the duration, shutting down factories one day a week to save fuel, and enforcing a strict system of priorities.

  • 19th Amendment

    This gave women more rights which meant some businesses were booming and others went down hill. There wasn’t much change.

  • Amelia Earhart becomes the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean

    This was another thing that gave women a higher ranking. Most businesses were booming during this time. The economy was doing good.
