The United States dropped two atomic bombs on Japan. Nagasaki and Hiroshmia were the two places where we dropped the bombs which ended the war. -
Formation of the UN
50 nations signed up to be in the United Nations. They were promoting freeedom and peace. -
The Red Scare
The Red Scare was dealing with fear of Commies in the USA. The commies were the ones who abused the constitutional rights. There was a Hollywood 10 that did not cooperate and were sent to jail. HUAC ( House Un-American Activities Committee) ,which was chaired by J. Parnell Thomas, was the name of the committee doing the investigation. There was an inneffective senator in 1950 named Joe McCarthy. He made accuations without having any evidence. In general the people were afriad of Communism. -
Berlin Airlift
For 327 days, planes took off and landed every few minutes, around the clock. We were dropping off food and supplies to help the people who were stuck in Berlin. -
NATO organized
NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. NATO is an alliance of West European nations united for defense against the Soviets. -
China goes Communist
China went communist in 1949. 450 million people turned to communism after World War II. -
The Korean War
The war was between North Korea and South Korea. It lasted till July 27, 1953. The war started and ended at the 38th parallel. North Korea was allied with the Chinese. South Korea was allied with the United States. They signed the armistice to stop firing at each other but the war is technically still going on just without any gunfire.
