    Storm on the Bastille
    French men were angry by the unfair taxes the were receiving, and once Jacques Necker was fired by King Louis XVI. The public stormed the Bastille on July 14, 1789. They did this in hope to receive gun power and artillery.

    When Louis XVI came to the throne, France had big debts to pay and was poverty stricken due to participation in a number of major wars that drained the French treasury. Louis XVI also added to the crisis himself through heavy spending on France’s involvement in the American Revolution from 1775 to 1783. Right after he became King, Louis XVI had no choice but to impose heavy taxes and institute financial and judicial reforms.

    The third estate became more and moreconvinced of their liberty and organized the National Assembly. The King tried to intimidate them to give up, however, the Assembly was too strong. Many Parisians heard about the upheaval and were overcome by revolutionary passion.

    The Legislated assembly provided the focus of political debate and revolutionary law-making when the constitution was finished and the king had less power.
  • Execution of the King and Queen

    Execution of the King and Queen
    When King Louis XVI tried to regain power over France revolutionaries attacked and imprisoned both the King and Queen. They were then executed by a guillotine, which is a device that cuts off a persons head.

    Napoleon Bonaparte was the leader of the French Army. Once he lost his power and was taking over. The French Revolution officially ended on November 9, 1799.
