    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise was created by Henry Clay, this compromise allowed Missouri to join as a slave state but to keep the power balance in the senate, it allowed Maine to join as a free state. The compromise also said states joining would be free if they were above the latitude 36 degrees 30 and slave if they were south of that. This was a big cause of the civil war. It kept peace for 30 years but when California joined the south complained because most of its land was south of the line.

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    Nat Turner was a radical abolitionist who planned a massive slave rebellion. During the rebellion he and his men killed 57 white people and 100 black people. Months after the rebellion he was found in a swamp on November 11th,1831. This was the reason why later slaves were denied being able to learn how to read.

It prohibited slave sales in Washington D.C. and the south got the Fugitive Slave Act which made it illegal to help runaway slaves. The compromise kept peace for another 10 years but as Kansas and Nebraska joined violence was not able to be avoided.

    The Supreme Court ruled that blacks, all blacks, could never be citizens of the US; and declared the Missouri Compromise unconstitutional therefore opening slavery to all of the country territories. The decission made the North mad because they were against slavery but made the South happy because they could take their slaves were ever they wanted.

The South didnt like this because they were afraid of what could happen to them.

    The presidential election was going on and the people that opposed slavery had one candidate, Abraham Lincoln. The people for slavery had a few candidates and the votes were split. Lincoln won without one southern state, the south worried that a anti-slavery person would be elected and end slavery. After Lincoln won the south split from the Union and then started the Civil War.

    The first State to leave the Union Was South Carolina that had tried to leave before but weren't allowed but after South Carolina Left The rest of the South left the Union calling themself Confederate States Of America. the South enjoyed this because they had slavery but the North were angry because they left and the Civil War started with the attack of Fort Sumter.
