  • COBOL

    This language is mainly used for business and administrative purposes. The acronym stands for "Common Business Oriented Language". Developed by Grace Hopper.
  • RPG

    It was primarily developed by the tech giant IBM to serve as an alternative for the punch card processing system on the IBM 1401.
  • Lisp

    Developed by John McCarthy this is a high-level language and its name stands for "List Processing". It is mainly used for artificial intelligence (AI) programming. Also, this is one of the oldest languages to still be used in today's time.
  • PASCAL

    Named after Blaise Pascal this is a high-level programming language developed by Niklaus Wirth. It is also a general-purpose programming language.
  • BASIC

    Was used for students that werent in math or science fields to use computers. Created by John G. Kemeny and Thomas E. Kurtz at Dartmouth College.
  • LOGO

    An educational programming language developed by Wally Feurzeig, Seymour Papert, and Cynthia Solomon. Mainly used for functional programming.
  • B

    Created by Ken Thomson and Dennis Ritchie. Made for non-numeric, machine-independent applications, such as system and language software. considered a typeless language.
  • C

    Although the stable release was in 2018 it was first developed by Dennis Ritchie in 1972. This language is procedural that supportd structured programming.
  • ML

    a general-purpose functional programming language that took some inspiration from the Lisp programming language. Designed by Robin Milner.
  • C++

    A language that is based on C language that was developed by Bjarne Stroustrup. This is more sophisticated and is a general-purpose programming language.
  • SQL

    The name of this language used to be SEQUEL but it was later changed to SQL. Created by Donald D. Chamberlin and Raymond F. Boyce mainly for a database.
  • ADA

    High level computer language used in computerized control systems. This language stemmed from PASCAL and is named after Augusta Ada King.
  • Python

    Was created by Guido van Rossum that is a high level and is a general purpose programming language.
  • Java

    Developed by James Gosling that is class-based and object-oriented.
  • Visual Basic

    Developed by Microsoft, primarily used to develop Windows applications and to interface database systems.
  • PHP

    Written in the C language this programming language was created by Rasmus Lerdorf.
  • Javascript

    A high-level multi-paradigm programming language developed by Brendan Eich. Surprisingly it only took him 10 days to make this and is now known to some people as mocha.
  • Delphi

    A high-level programming language that is primarily used to build applications for Windows systems. Developed by Anders Hejlsberg.
